The Middle Ground

He just stood there
In the middle ground
Neither dead nor alive
Stuck in between
Not able pass on
He saw the bullets flying
Nukes dropping
Soldiers lying dead,
On the other side
Dead called on to him
Hell, as they say,
You escape one, just
To enter another

He just stood there
In the middle ground
Smiling at his own dead body
If I could be finally at peace,
Death is a small price to pay
But then he heard the screams
The men he killed
On the other side
Calling for his head
Peace, as they say
is the calm before the storm

He just stood there
In the middle ground
He wished he’d never leave
I had served my time
And earned this choice
I will be free
He heard his voice
But the reaper waited
With bated breath
When he let goes
And welcomes death
A slave in life
A slave in death
Freedom as they say,
Is bought with slaves

He just stood there
In the middle ground
Asking death for one more sec
But life came up
And had his laugh
You waited too long
On my half
They brought him back
And he saw the light
They roared with joy
He put a heck of a fight
A smiling face welcomed him
And greeted get well soon
The war has just started
We’ll need you back next moon
I’ll go to war and be a martyr
That’s the only way out
This has depraved me bad
Brave as they say,
In all those tales
is a coward just gone mad
